Project Red Ribbon is a lifesaving initiative aimed at combating impaired driving during the holiday season. This annual awareness campaign serves as a poignant reminder of the heightened risks associated with impaired driving when social calendars are at their busiest. The red ribbon signifies an individual’s unwavering commitment to never drive under the influence. By wearing and promoting this emblem, people across the country keep the message of sober driving at the forefront of public consciousness.
The significance of Project Red Ribbon cannot be overstated. Impaired driving poses a significant danger to not only those behind the wheel but to innocent bystanders as well.
Pledging to never drive impaired is a vital step towards ensuring the safety of our roads and communities.
Every year, hundreds of Canadians are killed, and thousands more are injured in crashes involving alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs. Each of these losses is a preventable tragedy.
For Brenda Simmons, the holidays will never be the same. Every Christmas, her son Jacob would light up their home, hanging decorations outside and setting up the tree inside. But on a sunny June day in 2020, that tradition ended. Jacob, only 27, was riding his bike when he was struck and killed by an impaired driver. When Brenda went to identify him, he was still wearing his new helmet.
“The hardest part is knowing Jacob’s death was so unnecessary and such a waste of an amazing life…I am damaged beyond belief. My son is dead, and it didn’t have to be this way.”
Pledging to never drive impaired is a vital step toward ensuring the safety of our roads and communities. By joining Project Red Ribbon, we collectively contribute to a safer holiday season and a brighter future, reminding everyone that the responsibility to prevent impaired driving begins with each one of us.
